Asus has launched a new laptop with touch screen and Windows 8. It seems that the Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS has launched a new Q500 series of laptops.
The end of the year brings new laptops from ASUS. The new ASUS Q500 is offered by a few online stores, but without too much fuss. The laptop has many common features with the ASUS X501A, but they differ in design and price. Q500 has an aluminum alloy casing with a circular finish, has the dimensions 1.3 x 14.9 x 10 in and it weighs 5.7 pounds.
The design is wedge-shaped with sharp edges and tapered edges. Asus Q500 comes with a 15.6 inch multi-touch screen, and Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The hardware configuration is based on the Ivy Bridge processor Intel Core i7 3632QM clocked at 2.2 GHz (with turbo boost up to 3.2 GHz), 8GB DDR3 RAM memory and hard drive capacity of 750GB. In terms of connectivity, it comes with 1000 Mbps Ethernet, wireless-N, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port. I expected the Q500 to have a dedicated video card, but unfortunately it was not to be. Asus Q500 has only the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics. The operating system is Windows 8 running on 64-bit.
It is difficult to position the laptop: it doesn’t come with a configuration for gaming or multimedia, but it is not a cheap laptop. I see it somewhere between a budget laptop ASUS K Series and a multimedia laptop ASUS N Series. The new ASUS Q600 laptop is available online for under $1,000.
